Recently the chancellor announced a new £2bn jobs programme for young people. Branded ‘Kickstart’, the programme will offer six month paid work placements for young people at risk of long-term unemployment, paid at the National Minimum Wage.

With the furlough scheme coming to an end and many people at risk of losing their jobs, many businesses are looking to cut costs. So, what the government have put together is a scheme to help 16 to 24-year olds get back into the workplace called Kickstart.

It’s a brilliant opportunity for business owners, if you are looking to recruit, to bring someone in. Under the Kickstart programme what the government will do for six months, is pay for up to 25 hours per week towards someone age 16 to 24 coming in to work in your business.

The government will pay IN FULL towards wages (at the minimum rate of pay for that age group) as well as National Insurance and pension contributions. So, if you are looking to recruit, to bring someone in, it has to be a high quality placement, a genuine job.

The full details of the Kickstart scheme are yet to be announced however we expect them to be published in full on the government’s website. In the meantime you can read an introduction to the scheme on their Kickstart website.

You do need to be offering some sort of training and development but if that is what you have to offer a young person, it is a brilliant opportunity to get someone on board.

Why not keep your eyes peeled and Kickstart your recruitment?!
